FREE SUICIDE PREVENTION TRAINING OFFERED SafeTALK, a FREE suicide prevention training, will be held at Emmaus Lutheran Church on Thursday, February 16, from 1-4 pm, funded in part by The Four County ADAMhs Board. safeTALK is a training that prepares anyone over the age of 15 to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connects them to suicide first aid resources. Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Alert helpers know how to use these opportunities to support that desire for safety. As a safeTALK-trained suicide alert helper, you will be better able to: · move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide; · identify people who have thoughts of suicide; · apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person with suicidal thoughts to a suicide intervention caregiver. Powerful video clips illustrate both non-alert and alert responses. Interactive discussion and practice help stimulate learning. Learn steps that contribute to saving lives and making our community a suicide safer community. This training is limited to a maximum of 30 participants so please reserve your spot early. RSVP to Tante Lovins at Four County Family Center, 419-335-3732, or tlovins@fsno.org.
KIDS AGAINST HUNGER HANDS-ON EVENT On Saturday, February 25, Emmaus’ Junior and Senior Youth will be attending the Kids Against Hunger Hands-on Day at St John’s Stryker, at the corner of US 6 and OH 66. They will volunteer to help package 10,000-15,000 packages of food that will be shared with those who are less fortunate, both in our own counties and internationally. We will carpool from the church; plan to leave at 8:00 am.
LENTEN MIDWEEK SERVICES CHRIST: In the Strangest Places — Fulfilled, Foreshadowed, Forever Two tablets of stone, a few vessels of oil, simple markings, a small army, a remote field, a solemn oath--these are some of the strangest people, places and things through which God revealed himself to his people in the Old Testament. The Old Testament is chock-full of passion themes, from the serpent being crushed in Genesis 3:15 to Isaiah's Fourth Servant Song. Yet this series, written by seminary professor Dr. Reed Lessing, looks at some of the lesser-known Old Testament passion themes and focuses on them by means of single words. Here are some examples. Feb. 22, Ash Wednesday-- "Mine!" • Exodus 20:17 The commandments point out our desire to acquire Thursday, March 1-- "Nothing" • 2 Kings 4:1-7 Elisha provides for a widow Thursday, March 8-- "Marked" • Isaiah 44:5 God marks his people Thursday, March 15-- "Enlist" • Judges 6:16 Gideon's call
CHRIST IN THE PASSOVER “Christ in the Passover” is coming to Emmaus March 22 at 7:00 pm. Mark your calendar and invite a friend for this enlightening presentation about the Last Supper. Christ in the Passover shows the link between the ancient Festival of Redemption and Christ as the Lamb of God—your church members will never forget it! This sermonic demonstration is visual, so the congregation will actually see a table set with traditional Passover items. The missionary uses Scripture as well as the visual items to walk through a Jewish Passover seder, weaving the story of the Exodus together with the life, death and resurrection of Christ. The words He spoke in the upper room come alive as each Hebraic item is carefully explained. Mr and Mrs Svyatoslav “Slavik” Meyta will be our presenters for this event and will be hosted overnight by Pastor and Rosemary. |
